Couverture de l’ouvrage Supermicrosurgical Lymphaticovenular Anastomosis

The supermicrosurgical procedure known as Lymphaticovenular Anastomosis, or LVA, is a minimally invasive physiologic surgical treatment of lymphedema, which has gained attention worldwide in recent years as technical limitations were overcome and surgical indications can now apply to a larger set of patients with lymphatic disease. Complex advanced-stage lymphedema cases and patients with lymphorrea still have functional lymphatic channels, and could benefit from lymphaticovenular anastomosis. The latest technologies, such as ultrahigh frequency ultrasound, allow now to perform a detailed preoperative planning, improving efficacy and reliability of the intervention. Additional technologies that are available, as for example Rest-Stress Lymphoscintigraphy, Laser Tomography and Photoacoustic Imaging are also presented in the book, as all concur to build a complete preoperative and intraoperative set of information. Supermicrosurgical Lymphaticovenular Anastomosis is ahandy, one-of-a-kind guide built on the experience of contributors that are experts in this highly specialized field, while presenting topics in a clear and complete fashion, with the support of over 240 illustrations and chapter-related videos for a thorough understanding of preparatory steps and microsurgical techniques. This volume will be a valued companion to the modern microsurgeon dealing with lymphedema who wants to refine supermicrosurgical skills but also be of interest for professionals to gain insight in latest and more traditional technologies, through the related dedicated chapters and videos.

Foreword.- Preface.- 1. Physiopathology on Lymphedema and Rationale of LVA.- 2. Experimental Animal models on LVA for training (provides models which can be used in LAB for supermicrosurgical training and for acquiring technical skills, serving as basis for developing and design experimental studies).- 3. Technical aspects of LVA (includes all technical aspects of LVA, including techniques, configurations, supermicrosurgical pearls with videos).- 4. Diagnostics in Lymphedema Surgery (describes all diagnostic tools in Lymphedema surgery applied to LVA with single chapters for each diagnostic method, such as High-Frequency Ultrasound, Ultrahigh Frequency Ultrasound, Laser Tomography, Photoacustic, Near-Infrared technologies, Rest-Stress Lymphoscintigraphy and others).- 5. Preoperative Planning (includes dedicated chapters, in which different experst in LVA will illustrate how they plan LVA with videos).- 6. Operating techniques (includes dedicated chapters for each area of the body tobe treated (i.e. breast, genitalia, upper limb, lower limb, primary etc.).- 7. Perioperative Management (chapters dedicated to the perioperative management of lymphedema, including specific protocols of conservative physical therapy after LVA).

Dr. Giuseppe Visconti; MD, PhD,  is a board-certified Plastic Surgeon based in Rome. He started the Lymphedema Surgery Program in University Hospital “Agostino Gemelli” in Rome, which is nowadays one of the highest-volume Center for lymphedema surgery in Europe and recognized as Surgical Center of Excellence for lymphatic disease by LE&RN. Among the first user of Ultra High-Frequency Ultrasound in Europe for lymphatic surgery, he pioneered its use for perforator flaps. Dr Giuseppe Visconti has been granted by the Italian Ministry of Health a research project on Lymphedema Surgery in 2017, has produced more than 25 publications dedicated to lymphedema surgery on international peer reviewed Journals, 3 chapters on lymphedema surgery for International Books and is Co-Editor of the first book entirely dedicated to Supermicrosurgical LVA, published in 2020. Appointed as Visiting Professor at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Victor Babes in Timisoara, Romania in 2019. Co-Founder of the Imaging in Reconstructive Microsurgery Yearly Meeting since 2019, he is regularly invited in National and International Meetings for Lymphedema Surgery and has been appointed as Faculty in Boston Lymphatic Symposium in 2021, at the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery in 2022, at the International Master Degree in Surgical Lymphology 2022-2024 by RMES and Keynote Speaker on Lymphedema Surgery at the National Annual Meeting of Italian Society for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery in 2022.

Dr Akitatsu Hayashi, MD, is specialized in the surgical treatment for lymphedema. He is best known for pioneering with modern imaging techniques of the lymphatic vessels for lymphedema surgery (Ultrasound, OCT) and Director of the Kameda Lymphedema Center, first Asian designated Surgical Center of Excellence by the LE&RN, USA, in 2020. He was appointed Visiting Professor of Asan Medical Center, Korea in 2019, Virtual Professor at Buncke Clinic, USA, in 2020 and f
