Bioprocess Engineering Downstream Processing

Langue : Anglais
Couverture de l’ouvrage Bioprocess Engineering

Bioprocess Engineering: Downstream Processing is the first book to present the principles of bioprocess engineering, focusing on downstream bioprocessing. It aims to provide the latest bioprocess technology and explain process analysis from an engineering point of view, using worked examples related to biological systems.

This book introduces the commonly used technologies for downstream processing of biobased products. The covered topics include centrifugation, filtration, membrane separation, reverse osmosis, chromatography, biosorption, liquid-liquid separation, and drying. The basic principles and mechanism of separation are covered in each of the topics, wherein the engineering concept and design are emphasized.

This book is aimed at bioprocess engineers and professionals who wish to perform downstream processing for their feedstock, as well as students.

1. Cell Disruption. 2. Centrifugation. 3. Filtration. 4. Membrane-Based Separation Processes. 5. Reverse Osmosis. 6. Chromatography. 7. Biosorption. 8. Liquid-Liquid Separation. 9. Drying.

Pau Loke Show is an associate professor in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, The University of Nottingham, Malaysia Campus. After completing his Bachelor's degree in Process and Food Engineering, he furthered his studies, receiving a PhD in Bioprocess Engineering. His research focuses on bioprocess engineering from upstream to downstream processing in biotechnology and industrial microbiology. Dr. Show is also interested in fermentation technology using green methods to produce sustainable chemistry. During his PhD studies, he worked on bioseparation and enzyme recovery in protein downstream processing.

Ooi Chien Wei is Senior Lecturer of Chemical Engineering, Monash University Malaysia. He received his PhD in Bioprocess Engineering from University Putra Malaysia, 2011.

Ling Tau Chuan is a professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Malaya. He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Birmingham University, UK. His areas of expertise include bioprocess engineering (bioproducts and food processing) and downstream processing (bioseparation, product recovery, adsorbent and porous materials).
