Stem cells: From Potential to Promise, 1st ed. 2021
Coordonnateur : Haider Khawaja Husnain
The book highlights the therapeutic applications of various stem cells, and introduces readers to thymus stem cells and their applications in the reconstitution of thymic structure and function. It also discusses the significant role of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the treatment of autoimmune diseases and the use of MSC-derived exosomes in cell-free therapy. Moreover, it explores the application of hematopoietic stem cells in the vasculoprotection of the ischemially injured heart. Further topics include the regenerative potential of ovarian germline stem cells and the significance of endometrial stem cells in the pathogenesis of female reproductive tract diseases.
Lastly, the book addresses stem cells from perinatal tissues and their immunoregulatory and differentiation potentials, and summarizes new strategies for targeting cancer stem cells to treat tumors.
Dr. Khawaja Husnain Haider is currently a Professor of Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology (Stem cells and Gene Therapy) and Chairman of the Basic Sciences Department (Medical Program) at Sulaiman AlRajhi University.
He has also served on the editorial boards of various research journals and as an invited reviewer for several respected international journals. His research focuses on the use of DNA and stem cells as “drugs,” a topic that has gained popularity in regenerative medicine. He has over 270 publications to his credits including book chapters, published abstract and research papers in various leading journals, including Circulation, Circulation Research, Cardiovascular Research, JCMM, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, Cell Cycle, Basic Research in Cardiology, European J of Heart Failure, Regenerative Medicine, and Antioxidant Redox Signaling. He has also given numerous presentations and recently edited 4 books covering various facets of stem cell biology.
