Couverture de l’ouvrage Fundamentals of Incompressible Fluid Flow

This highly informative and carefully presented book offers a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of incompressible fluid flow. The textbook focuses on foundational topics to more complex subjects such as the derivation of Navier-Stokes equations, perturbation solutions, inviscid outer and inner solutions, turbulent flows, etc. The author has included end-of-chapter problems and worked examples to augment learning and self-testing. This book will be a useful reference for students in the area of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

Compressibility of Fluids.- Compressible and Incompressible Flows.- Laminar and turbulent flows.- Basic Concepts in Incompressible Flows.- Eulerian and Lagrangian formulations.- The Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations.- Forces acting on a fluid element and the stress tensor.- Straining of a fluid element and the strain rate tensor.- Solutions to the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations.- Boundary conditions.- Potential Flows.- Laminar Boundary Layer Theory.- Analytical Solutions to the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations.- Turbulent Flows.- Turbulent Internal Flows.- Turbulent External Flows.- Drag reduction in external flows.

Dr. V. Babu is currently Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai. He received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from REC Trichy in 1985 and Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1991. He worked as a Post-Doctoral researcher at the Ohio State University from 1991 to 1995. He was a Technical Specialist at the Ford Scientific Research Lab, Michigan from 1995 to 1998. He received the Henry Ford Technology Award in 1998 for the development and deployment of a virtual wind tunnel. He has four U.S. patents to his credit. He has published technical papers on simulations of fluid flows including plasmas and non-equilibrium flows, computational aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, scientific computing and ramjet, scramjet engines. His primary research specialization is CFD and he is currently involved in the simulation of high speed reacting flows, prediction of jet noise, simulation of fluid flows using the lattice Boltzmann method and high performance computing.

Presents a broad range of basic concepts and progresses to more complex applications Derivation of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations followed by mathematical nature of solutions to these equations is discussed at length End of chapter exercises and worked problems are presented to aid learning
