APPLIED STRENGTH OF MATERIALS 6/e, SI Units Version provides coverage of basic strength of materials for students in Engineering Technology (4-yr and 2-yr) and uses only SI units. Emphasizing applications, problem solving, design of structural members, mechanical devices and systems, the book has been updated to include coverage of the latest tools, trends, and techniques. Color graphics support visual learning, and illustrate concepts and applications. Numerous instructor resources are offered, including a Solutions Manual, PowerPoint slides, Figure Slides of book figures, and extra problems. With SI units used exclusively, this text is ideal for all Technology programs outside the USA.

Basic Concepts in Strength of Materials. Design Properties of Materials. Direct Stress, Deformation, and Design. Torsional Shear Stress and Torsional Deformation. Shearing Forces and Bending Moments in Beams. Centroids and Moments of Inertia of Areas. Stress Due to Bending. Shearing Stresses in Beams. Deflection of Beams. Combined Stresses. Columns. Pressure Vessels. Connections. Appendix. Answers to Selected Problems. Index.

Robert L. Mott, P.E. is professor emeritus of engineering technology at the University of Dayton. He is a member of ASEE, SME, and ASME. He is a Fellow of ASEE and a recipient of the ASEE James H. McGraw Award, Frederick J. Berger Award, and the Archie Higdon Distinguished Educator Award (From Applied Mechanics Division). He is a recipient of the SME Education Award. He holds the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University), and the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University. His industry experience includes General Motors Corporation, consulting for several companies, and serving as an expert witness on numerous legal cases. He is the author of three textbooks: Applied Fluid Mechanics 7th ed. (co-authored with Joseph A. Untener) and Machine Elements in Mechanical Design 5th ed., published by Pearson/Prentice-Hall; Applied Strength of Materials 6th ed. (co-authored with Joseph A. Untener) with CRC Press.
