A Treatise on the Magnetic Vector Potential, 1st ed. 2020

Langue : Anglais

Auteur :

Couverture de l’ouvrage A Treatise on the Magnetic Vector Potential
The connection between the electric and magnetic fields is fundamental to our understanding of light as electromagnetic waves. The magnetic vector potential lies at the heart of this relation. The idea emerged in the early days of research in electromagnetism but was dismissed for more than half a century until the formulation of quantum electrodynamics. The magnetic vector potential is a pivotal concept with ties to many aspects of physics and mathematics. This book unravels the nature of the magnetic vector potential, highlights its connection to quantum mechanics and superconductivity, and explores the analogy with hydrodynamics.
Introduction.- Conceptual emergence.- Mathematical appearance.- Three dimensional solutions.- Applications.- Hydrodynamics analogy.- Superconductivity.- Future directions.
Kristján Klausen gained a deep understanding of electromagnetic fields from conducting geophysical surveys in the wilderness of Iceland. Following his bachelors degree in geophysics, he delved deeper into the fundamentals of electromagnetism and wrote a master's thesis in physics education, which has become the basis for A Treatise on the Magnetic Vector Potential. Kristján is currently a doctoral candidate at Reykjavik University researching Majorana zero modes in nanowire systems for topological quantum computation.

A clearly written summary of what is known about the concept of the magnetic vector potential and its versatile role in various areas of physics, in one concise volume

A unique text putting the magnetic vector potential in the foreground of both historical and theoretical treatment of electromagnetism and its ties with quantum mechanics and superconductivity

With rich elaboration of visual representations and analogies, this book will aid the reader in developing deep intuition about the magnetic vector potential
