Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics, 1st ed. 2022 Development, Application and Analysis

Langue : Anglais

Couverture de l’ouvrage Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics
This more-of-physics, less-of-math, insightful and comprehensive book simplifies computational fluid dynamics for readers with little knowledge or experience in heat transfer, fluid dynamics or numerical methods. The novelty of this book lies in the simplification of the level of mathematics in CFD by presenting physical law (instead of the traditional differential equations) and discrete (independent of continuous) math-based algebraic formulations. Another distinguishing feature of this book is that it effectively links theory with computer program (code). This is done with pictorial as well as detailed explanations of implementation of the numerical methodology. It also includes pedagogical aspects such as end-of-chapter problems and carefully designed examples to augment learning in CFD code-development, application and analysis. This book is a valuable resource for students in the fields of mechanical, chemical or aeronautical engineering.
Introduction.- Introduction to CFD: Development, Application, and Analysis.- Essentials of Fluid-Dynamics and Heat-Transfer for CFD.- Essentials of Numerical-Methods for CFD. Computational Heat Conduction.- Computational Heat Advection.- Computational Heat Convection.- Computational Fluid Dynamics: Physical Law based Finite Volume Method.- Computational Fluid Dynamics on a Staggered Grid.- Computational Fluid Dynamics on a Co-located Grid.- Computational Heat Conduction on a Curvilinear Grid.- Computational Fluid Dynamics on a Curvilinear Grid.
Dr. Atul Sharma is a Professor in the Mechanical Department at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, with a teaching and research experience on CFD code-development, its applications and big-data analysis for more than 20 years. Hehas proved leadership in capacity building in CFD, by providing training programme in more than 100 engineering-institutes, with a vision to make CFD-easy-enough to be taught at an early Under-Graduate curriculum. Most of his research contributions are on Computational Multi-Phase Dynamics, comprising Computational Multi-Fluid Dynamics and Computational Fluid-Structure Interactions. He has graduated 15 PhD students, with two best-PhD-thesis awards and SHELL computational-talent-prizes. His wide-variety of research is published as 79 articles in 29 different international-journals and 13 chapters in 4 edited-books; and appeared in the cover page of Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids and Langmuir. He was a CFD consultant at Global R&D, Crompton Greaves Limited, Mumbai; served as Secretary, National Society of Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Power INDIA; and presently, associate-editor of a Journal Sadhana –  academy proceedings in engineering sciences. He received IIT Bombay “Departmental Award for Excellence in Teaching 2019”.

Presents a broad range of concepts in an easy to follow language

Links theoretical concepts with the computer program to enable readers foster practical understanding

Is structured for a module-by-module code development of the 2D numerical formulation; gives codes for heat conduction, advection, and convection
