Dr. Liangtong Zhan is a professor and deputy director of the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. He received his Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research focuses on waste mechanics, geoenvironmental engineering, unsaturated soil mechanics, and hazard mitigation. His recent research interests include the geotechnical properties of municipal solid waste and sewage sludge, landfill cover and barriers, remediation of contaminated soils, air and water flow, thermo-hydro-mechanical coupled modeling, mitigation of natural hazards induced by extreme climate conditions etc. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals and conference proceedings, and serves as an editorial board member for the journal Geotextiles and Geomembranes and Canadian Geotechnical Journal. He also served as vice-chairman of the CTAG.

Dr. Yunmin Chen is a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (2015), and a professor at the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Dr. Chen received his Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 1989. His research interests include soil dynamics, ground improvement and foundation engineering, and geoenvironmental engineering. He has been granted support for seven research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, including one key project and one outstanding Young Scientist Award. He has finished several major consulting projects in China, including the construction of the first airport built on thick soft clay deposit in China, the evaluation of the dynamic stability of high-speed railway subgrade, controlling the settlement of highways on soft soil deposit using piled embankments, deep excavation of the Shanghai World Expo underground transformer substation, etc. Dr. Chen has published over 200 technical papers.
