Academic and Professional Reference

Dr. Joseph P. Hou, O.M.D., Ph.D., C.A., author and researcher, and certified acupuncture physician was born in Hopei, China. He graduated from the National Defense Medical College in Taipei and spent several years studying acupuncture in Taiwan and at the Acupuncture Institute of the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Beijing, China. Dr. Hou also attended graduate studies at Columbia University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison earning a Ph.D., which led to 10 years of medical research. He has devoted his time to acupuncture and herbal medicine in New York and New Jersey since 1977. He moved to Orlando in 1982 and opened the J.P. Hou Institute, P.A. Lastly, Dr. Hou served as past president of the Florida State Acupuncture Association and vice chairman of the Florida Board of Acupuncture.
