Couverture de l’ouvrage The Foot and Ankle in Rheumatology
Musculoskeletal foot pathology is endemic in patients with rheumatological conditions, with up to 90% of patients reporting current foot pain. However, foot pathology is often trivialised, despite the strong body of evidence showing foot problems are associated with reduced quality of life. The Foot and Ankle in Rheumatology is a unique, comprehensive, and detailed guide to all aspects of the management of foot and ankle pathologies in rheumatic conditions. Written by a team of leading experts, this title provides international perspectives and current state of the art information on foot and ankle pathology across a range of conditions. With over 170 colour images and photographs, practical diagnostic and management techniques are clearly explained with references to the latest guidelines. Rheumatology is a fast-evolving field, with major advances in treatment and management strategies. As the effective management of rheumatological foot and ankle disorders requires and integrated, disease-stage approach across a multidisciplinary team, the Foot and Ankle in Rheumatology has been designed to provide clear, practical, and evidence-based advice for a wide range of health professions, from podiatrists, rheumatologists, and orthopaedic surgeons to occupational therapists and physiotherapists.
Philip Helliwell is the Professor of Clinical Rheumatology and the Leeds Institute of Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Medicine, and an Honorary Consultant for the Bradford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is a member of the Assessment of Spondyloarthropathy Society (ASAS), and the co-founder and Vice President of the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis (GRAPPA). He has contributed to several guidelines on management of foot and ankle problems in the UK. Dr Backhouse has a background in podiatry, and over a decade of experience in applied clinical research. This is highly multidisciplinary and ranges from large clinical trials, to imaging and mechanism of action studies, all aiming improve the lives of people with musculoskeletal disease and other long term conditions. This work has a strong focus on the foot and ankle in rheumatoid arthritis, including physical therapies, devices, and surgical interventions for lower limb pathologies. Prior to joining York Trials Unit, Mike was a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Leeds where he held two NIHR fellowships. Mike is an elected Fellow of the College of Podiatry and Faculty of Podiatric Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow.
