Apoptosis in Cancer Pathogenesis and Anti-cancer Therapy, 1st ed. 2016 New Perspectives and Opportunities Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology Series, Vol. 930

Langue : Anglais

Coordonnateur : Gregory Christopher D.

Couverture de l’ouvrage Apoptosis in Cancer Pathogenesis and Anti-cancer Therapy
This book discusses properties of apoptosis and other cell death modalities in cancer pathogenesis and treatment. Its nine chapters discuss modulation of anti-tumor inflammatory and immune responses, effects on the tumor microenvironment, to strategies for improving pro-apoptotic therapies, mechanisms and implications for disease pathogenesis, axl and mer receptor tyrosine kinases, immunogenic apoptotic cell death and anti-cancer immunity and cancer cell death-inducing radiotherapy. This book places the onco-biology of apoptosis in clear and objective perspective through an expertly synthesized series of reviews.

Apoptosis in Cancer Pathogenesis and Anti-cancer Therapy is a deft and thorough exploration of cutting-edge research in apoptosis and anti-cancer mechanisms from basic biology to oncology. It highlights a rapidly growing field within cancer research and is essential reading for oncologists, biochemists and advanced graduate students alike.
Foreword.- Preface.- 1. Molecular Cell Biology of Apoptosis and Necroptosis in Cancer.- 2. Clearance of Dying Cells by Phagocytes: Mechanisms and Implications for Disease Pathogenesis.- 3. Micro-environmental Effects of Cell Death in Malignant Disease.- 4. Apoptotic Caspases in Promoting Cancer: Implications from Their Roles in Development and Tissue Homeostasis.- 5. Axl and Mer Receptor Tyrosine Kinases: Distinct and Non-overlapping Roles in Inflammation and Cancer?.- 6. Immunogenic Apoptotic Cell Death and Anti-cancer Immunity.- 7. Cancer Cell Death-inducing Radiotherapy – Impact on Local Tumour Control, Tumour Cell Proliferation and Induction of Systemic Anti-tumour Immunity.- 8. Novel Approaches to Apoptosis-inducing Therapies.- 9. Killing Is Not Enough – How Apoptosis Hijacks Tumor-associated Macrophages to Promote Cancer Progression.- Index.
Christopher D. Gregory is Professor of Inflammatory Cell Biology and the Deputy Director of the MRC Centre for Inflammation Research at the University of Edinburgh. Professor Gregory is an active research group leader in the fields of immunology, inflammation, and cancer with a particular interest in apoptosis. He has published over 100 scientific papers and has received over 6,950 citations.
