Couverture de l’ouvrage Quantum Theory and Local Causality

?This book summarizes the results of research the authors have pursued in the past years on the problem of implementing Bell's notion of local causality in local physical theories and relating it to other important concepts and principles in the foundations of physics such as the Common Cause Principle, Bell's inequalities, the EPR (Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen) scenario, and various other locality and causality concepts. The book is intended for philosophers of science with an interest in the formal background of sciences, philosophers of physics and physicists working in foundation of physics.

Introduction.- What is a local physical theory?.- Relativistic locality and causality principles.- Bell's notion of local causality.- The Causal Markov Condition.- The Common Cause Principle.- Bell's inequalities.- The EPR scenario.- A noncommutative locally causal model for the EPR.- Summary and outlook.

Gábor Hofer-Szabó is a senior research fellow at the Institute of Philosophy, Research Center for the Humanities at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. His main fields of research are foundations of quantum mechanics, interpretations of probability and probabilistic causality.

Péter Vecsernyés is a senior research fellow at the Wigner Research Centre for Physics at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest. His main fields of research are algebraic quantum field theory and quantum groups.

Provides a formally rigorous and conceptually precise analysis of Bell’s notion of local causality

Develops a framework, called local physical theory, which is necessary for the definition of local causality

Relates local causality to other important concepts and principles such as the Common Cause Principle, EPR (Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen) scenario, Bell’s inequalities, and the Causal Markov Condition
