Centrifugal Pumps (2nd Ed., 2nd ed. 1998)

Langue : Anglais

Coordonnateurs : Karassik Igor, McGuire J. Terry

Couverture de l’ouvrage Centrifugal Pumps
This last, the education of pump users, is precisely what this book was intended to do. To what extent we must have achieved our purpose, our readers must decide. My good friend and associate, J. T. (Terry) McGuire, and I have been working very closely together for a long time. Our view of engineering problems and of their solutions coincide to an astonishing degree. When I was asked to prepare a second edition of my book Centrifugal Pumps, it was logical that I turned to Terry and suggested that he be my coauthor on this project. He agreed to do so, and his cooperation has been most valuable, both in improving the resultant work and in easing my burden. It would be presumptuous on my part to pretend that nothing has changed in the technology of centrifugal pumps during the 30 years since I prepared the manuscript for the first edition of this book. Let me, then, speak of some of these changes.
Foreward. Part I: Pump types and construction. Classification and nomenclature. Casings and diffusers. Multistage pump casings. Impellers and wearing rings. Axial thrust in single and multistage pumps. Hydraulic balancing devices. Shafts and shaft sleeves. Stuffing boxes. Mechanical seals. Breakdown seals. Bearings. Couplings. Baseplates and other pump supports. Special designs: vertical pumps. Special designs: self-priming pumps. Special effect pumps. Materials of construction. Part II: Pump performance. Heads, conditions of service, performance characteristics, specific speed. Suction conditions and limitations on suction performance. System-head curves. Pumps and energy conservation. Pump operation at off-design conditions. Part III: Controls, drivers, and priming. Controls. Drivers. Priming. Part IV: Services and selection of pumps. Services. Procuring centrifugal pumps. Part V: Installation, operation, and maintenance, and diagnostics. Installation. Operation. Monitoring and performance. Maintenance. Diagnostics of field problems. Part VI: Development, The centrifugal pump of tomorrow. Index.
This book provides the professional engineer with information necessary in selecting the proper pump design, size and performance criteria for specific functions.
