Adam Smith's contribution to economics is well-recognised but in recent years scholars have been exploring the philosophical aspects of his works. The Philosophy of Adam Smith contains essays by some of the most prominent philosophers and scholars working on Adam Smith today. It is a special issue of The Adam Smith Review, commemorating the 250th anniversary of Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments.

Vivienne Brown is Professor Emerita of Philosophy and Intellectual History at The Open University, UK. She is the author of Adam Smith’s Discourse: Canonicity, Commerce and Conscience and numerous articles in a range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary journals. She is the founding editor of The Adam Smith Review.

Samuel Fleischacker is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Illinois-Chicago. He works on moral and political philosophy, and is the author of A Third Concept of Liberty: Judgment and Freedom in Kant and Adam Smith, and On Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations: A Philosophical Companion.From 2006 to 2010, he was President of the International Adam Smith Society.
