Gas hydrate occurrence can pose a major threat to pipeline integrity. Therefore, different categories of gas hydrate inhibitors and the main factors influencing ionic liquids during gas hydrate inhibition are examined thoroughly. The use of ionic liquids as corrosion inhibitors, their application in flow assurance industry to mitigate corrosion, and factors affecting their performance are discussed. He received his Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering Department at the Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, where he is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree on gas hydrate and corrosion inhibition in the field of flow assurance. Since 2012, he has published 9 research articles, 5 conference papers and a book chapter in the field of adsorption, natural gas purification, gas hydrates and flow assurance with the emphasis on application of ionic liquids and quaternary ammonium salts.
Professor Azmi M Shariff is a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department at Universiti Teknologi Petronas. He is the Director of the Institute of Contaminant Management for Oil and Gas, and a former head of CO₂ Research Centre (CO₂RES) and the Centre for Advanced Process Safety (CAPS).
