Couverture de l’ouvrage Historical and Recent Catastrophic Tsunamis in the World
The 2010 tsunamis generated in Haiti, Chile, and Indonesia caused various damage on the coasts. In the past, the 1755 Lisbon, 1964 Alaska, and 2003 Algeria earthquakes also generated damaging tsunamis. This volume contains an introduction and 18 papers, mostly presented at the 25th International Tsunami Symposium held 1-4 July 2011. They report the above tsunamis and discuss tsunami DART observations, warning systems, risk management in the Pacific, modelling of earthquake and landslide tsunamis, and probabilistic tsunami hazard assessment.

Introduction.- DART® Tsunameter Retrospective and Real-Time Data: A Reflection on 10 Years of Processing in Support of Tsunami Research and Operations.- Tsunami Early Warning Within Five Minutes.- Tsunami Risk Management in Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs): Some Issues, Challenges and Ways Forward.- Could a 1755-Like Tsunami Reach the French Atlantic Coastline? Constraints from Twentieth Century Observations and Numerical Modeling.- Note on the 1964 Alaska Tsunami Generation by Horizontal Displacements of Ocean Bottom. Numerical Modeling of the Runup in Chenega Cove, Alaska.- The 21 May 2003 Tsunami in the Western Mediterranean Sea: Statistical and Wavelet Analyses.- Twin Tsunamis Triggered by the 12 January 2010 Haiti Earthquake.- Near-Field Tsunami Edge Waves and Complex Earthquake Rupture.- Slip Distribution and Seismic Moment of the 2010 and 1960 Chilean Earthquakes Inferred from Tsunami Waveforms and Coastal Geodetic Data.- The 2009 Samoan and 2010 Chilean Tsunamis Recorded on the Pacific Coast of Russia.- The 2010 Chilean Tsunami Off the West Coast of Canada and the Northwest Coast of the United States.- Tsunami Source of the 2010 Mentawai, Indonesia Earthquake Inferred from Tsunami Field Survey and Waveform Modeling.- Sedimentary Features of Tsunami Deposits in Carbonate-Dominated Beach Environments: A Case Study from the 25 October 2010 Mentawai Tsunami.- Indices for the Objective Assessment of Tsunami Forecast Models.- A Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Study of the Auckland Region, Part I: Propagation Modelling and Tsunami Hazard Assessment at the Shoreline.- A Probabilistic Tsunami Hazard Study of the Auckland Region, Part II: Inundation Modelling and Hazard Assessment.- Horizontal Motions of Water in the Vicinity of a Tsunami Source.- Analytical Solutions for Tsunami Waves Generated by Submarine Landslides in Narrow Bays and Channels.

Presents research on past and recent destructive tsunamis Covers deep-sea (DART) and coastal tsunami observations, warning systems and risk management in the Pacific Ocean Includes studies on the 1755 Lisbon, 1964 Alaska, 2003 Algeria, and 2011 Haiti tsunamis
