Evidence Based Gynaecological Oncology A Practical Guide

Langue : Anglais

Auteur :

This handbook will summarize the evidence behind decision making in the management and triage of gynaecological precancer and cancer from benign conditions. It aims to be a practical guide for gynaecologists to help them screen, detect and manage patients with precancer and cancer safely and effectively. The book will provide evidence-based guidance on when to investigate, what are the right tests to use to detect cancer, when to refer to specialist centres, when NOT to operate and delineate the boundaries of safe practice. This book will provide clear guidance to how to triage between benign and malignant conditions and when it is appropriate for general gynaecologists to manage these patients surgically. The book will also address the challenging clinical issues that arise when cancer is detected unexpectedly.  This book is primarily intended for a global audience – the UK is one of the few countries in the world to have entrenched referral pathways for the management of women with suspected precancer or cancer or benign tumours. In countries where no such referral systems exist, there is a need for clear evidence based guidance on when to refer to a gynaecologist and when a gynaecologist should refer to a more specialist gynaecological oncologist/ specialist centre. Each chapter will be written in clear, didactic style and will be accompanied by a box of key points, 2 illustrative short case based discussions and a flowchart for each disease type. Contributors will be drawn from an international pool and will have an understanding of gynaecological oncology practice in both western and other health care systems.
