Pili in Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Structure, Function, and Therapeutic Advances

Langue : Anglais

Auteurs :

Couverture de l’ouvrage Pili in Mycobacterium Tuberculosis

Pili in Mycobacterium Tuberculosis: Structure, Function, and Therapeutic Advances discusses the types of pili produced by the tuberculosis-causing bacterium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTBC). The book examines the structure of pili shown under electron and atomic force microscopy and by using whole genome sequencing, and outlines the importance of pili in mycobacterium tuberculosis. It then explores the role of pili in bacteria-host interactions and in drug development and delivery. Sections open with an overview of the structure, synthesis, and function of pili in bacteria. This includes taxonomy and the role of pili in diseases. The book also examines the preparation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis for electronic and atomic microscopy and looks at the different life cycles and susceptibility patterns of MTBC and goes on to discuss the expression and function of pili using whole genome sequencing and PCR-based methods and delves into bacteria host interactions. Lastly, it explores the development of new drugs and its delivery by pili.

1. The structure and function of pili in bacteria
2. The structure of pili under electron and atomic force microscopy
3. The pili at genomic level
4. The design for drug delivery using pili in Mycobacterium tuberculosis
5. The Role and possible function of pili in Mycobacterium tuberculosis with host
Dr. Velayati is the Director of National Research Institute of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases (NRITLD) at the Shahid

300 MD and PhD students. He is the Head of Mycobacteriology Research Center in NRITLD, where he directly monitors
the basic and clinical trial on tuberculosis. Dr. Velayati is President of the Asian African Society of Mycobacteriology
and Chief Editor of the International Journal of Mycobacteriology. He is also the Chief Editor of the Journal of Preventive,
Diagnostic and Treatment Strategies in Medicine and the Biomedical and Biotechnology Research Journal.
Dr. Farnia has special expertise in Mycobacteriology. She has published the majority of her work in the Medicine area (58%) and holds a 1.0 FWCI in that category. She holds an average number of 3.2 citations per publication. She has published multiple times in journals including the International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Biology; the International Journal of Mycrobacteriology; and the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.

Dr. Farina’s publications span international, national and institutional collaboration. 32.7% of her publications are co-authored with researchers in other countries.

  • Covers the structure, synthesis, and function of pili produced by the tuberculosis-causing bacterium, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTBC)
  • Explains the mechanism of bacteria-host attachment and the importance of this phenomena in mycobacterium tuberculosis pili and other bacteria
  • Emphasizes the use of advanced techniques to study and investigate the TB-bacilli and its interaction with host cells
